Have you ever wondered how ABVM CYO got its name ‘The Stars’ ?
We call ourselves the Stars, because we are the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary parish.
Mary is our patroness and she has long been associated with stars.
Here are some examples
- Stella Maris – Our Lady Star of the Sea
Our Lady has long been referred to as the Star of the Sea.
Just as the stars guide sailors through vast expanses of the ocean, Our Lady, too, guides us on the tumultuous sea of life. She is our guiding star, lighting the way to a safe haven
- Our Lady of Guadalupe
When we gaze upon the image of Our Lady of Guadalupe, we see that her mantle is covered in stars.
- The Miraculous Medal
Designed and revealed by Mary herself, the Medal is unique among all medals.
The front side of the Miraculous Medal depicts Mary Immaculate, her hands open, full of light. On the reverse side of the medal the twelve stars signify the twelve tribes of Israel and the twelve apostles, who represent the entire Church as it surrounds Mary.
Our Lady plays such a vital role in all of our lives and in the lives of our children. I like to think of our children as the stars of her crown and the stars on her mantle, because each one of them is so precious to her.
Our Blessed Mother is the patroness of our parish. We are named the Stars, and will always be the Stars, in honor of Our Lady.
“As the queen who reigns in the glory of God’s Kingdom, Mary remains close to us at every step of our earthly pilgrimage, supporting us in our trials and sharing with us the life and love of Jesus her Son.”
(Pope John Paul II, June 1997)
We are offering multiple sports this spring and hope to get a great turnout. We will need volunteers to help with our expanded Baseball, Softball and Lacrosse offerings so please reach out if you are able to help. Our CYO program remains strong and continues to grow only through the volunteerism of our community.
Please reach out to Neil O'Donnell (cyo@assumptionbvmwestgrove.org) if you are interested in volunteering to continue to grow this ministry !
